The San Diego County Adult Protective Services (APS) is part of the SD Health and Human Services Agency that investigates reports of elder and dependent adult abuse including neglect and abandonment, as well as physical, sexual and financial abuse. Its aim is to preserve their stakeholders’ right to safety and dignity.
They encourage citizens of San Diego County to report cases of abuse among these vulnerable individuals to be able to give them options on how to keep him or her safe from harm. The service also allows families of these individuals to contact the needed community services. Most importantly, through this service, the perpetrator of the abuse can be prosecuted which leads to lessening the harm caused to others.
Health practitioners, law enforcement and emergency response personnel, the clergy, public social service employees or any other elder or dependent adult care custodian are considered mandatory reporters and should therefore contact the APS when incidents of abuse are encountered.
