Multi-Million Dollar Reconstruction of Hillcrest Fire Station Announced

san diego newMayor Kevin L. Faulconer announced plans for reconstruction of Hillcrest Fire Station as Todd Gloria, City Council member, and Fire Rescue Chief Brian Jennesy stood by. Fire station number 5 dates back to the 1950s and will be replaced with a 10,731sqft station which will be large enough to handle modern equipment. The two stories will hold a chief emergency vehicle, a fire ladder truck and fire engine. The second floor will provide improved living quarters.

The project is slated to cost $9.2 million and is set for completion in 2018. One of the busiest in San Diego, Station 5 will remain at 3902 Ninth Avenue. The station serves an average of 6,000 calls yearly or 16 calls daily. The unit will house at 4311 Third Street during reconstruction of Hillcrest fire station.
